The Early Word: Alternate Side Parking Suspended Today

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Get ready for the start of school with science fun at Greenwood Playground. Watch the marshmallow smasher and learn about air pressure! Build a paper helicopter and find out about air resistance and gravity! Make a marshmallow catapult! Today at 4 p.m., meets near the chess tables. Intended for ages 4 and up (though all ages are invited to watch). 

2. Mark your calendars for the Guitar Mutants, the Windsor Terrace-based Cruise Control Guitar School's student band, which will perform P.S. 154's outdoor festival on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. More information on the Guitar Mutants is available here. 

3. It's only August, but the has just tapped its first pumpkin brew of the season—the Lakefront Pumpkin Lager. And we're not complaining.

4. From Wednesday, Aug. 22 to Friday, Aug. 24, the Department of Transportation will be paving the southbound Ocean Parkway Service Road—Ave C to Ditmas Ave.—as well as the northbound Ocean Parkway Service Road—18th Avenue to Caton Avenue. 

5. Alternate side parking is suspended today in observance of  Idul-Fitr.
