​North Carolina Coronavirus: 2,344 More Cases, 38 New Deaths

NORTH CAROLINA — On Thursday, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 2,344 more people have tested positive for the coronavirus. An additional 38 deaths were also reported.

Statewide, data shows that 1,903 people have died from the virus so far, and a total of 120,194 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began.

The state reports hospitalizations fell statewide to 1,239, down 52 from Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, however, 483 more people were admitted to hospitals across the state on suspicion of having COVID-19. Only 89 percent of the state's hospitals report data to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The state reports it has performed 1,724,924 total tests since testing for the coronavirus became available. Approximately 8 percent of all people tested for the virus have returned a positive result.

Data shows across the state, 909 ventilators are in use. Another 2,386 ventilators remain unused as of publication.

Free testing will be provided in Mecklenburg County over the weekend for people who meet certain criteria. To be tested, attendees must bring a photo ID, insurance information if applicable and a cloth face covering.
