Romaine Lettuce Recalled Due To E. Coli Concern Sent To NC

Tanimura & Antle Inc. is voluntarily recalling its packaged single head romaine lettuce sold in 20 states, including North Carolina.

NORTH CAROLINA — A voluntary recall of romaine lettuce sold under the Tanimura & Antle label is underway in 20 states including North Carolina due to potential E. Coli contamination, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Tanimura & Antle Inc. is voluntarily recalling its packaged single head romaine lettuce labeled with a packed date of Oct. 15, 2020 or Oct. 16, 2020, due to possible contamination with E. Coli, the FDA said.

Packages contain a single head of romaine lettuce with the UPC number 0-27918-20314-9.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled product.

According to the FDA, more than 3,000 cartons of potentially affected lettuce was distributed in the United States to the following states: Alaska, Oregon, California, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Nebraska, Missouri, Tennessee, Wisconsin, New Mexico, South Carolina, Washington, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and Illinois.

E. coli O157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools, according to the FDA. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly.
