Burst Pipe Cuts Off Caldwell County Water Service: Report
County officials tell residents to boil water; line gets repaired Friday afternoon, says media report.

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC β Officials in Caldwell County told residents Friday to boil their water before using it, or switch to bottled water, after a burst pipe was repaired, according to a media report. The 12-inch water line broke early Friday, leaving more than 300 residents without service, WSOC-TV Channel 9 reported.
Workers with the Caldwell County Water Department fixed the break on Friday afternoon, county officials said. Even after the repair, customers reported instances of low water pressure and outages, increasing the potential for dangerous bacteria to seep into the water system, Channel 9 reported.
Cold temperatures in the region on Friday morning apparently caused the pipe to burst, according to the workers. Caldwell County is northwest of Charlotte.

County officials advised affected residents to boil their water or to use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food, Channel 9 reported. Boiling local water for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms, the officials said.
