I never thought Iβd be a doctor. Thatβs not what I grew up thinking. As a college athlete, rowing at the State University of New York at Buffalo, I became fascinated with nutrition when a nutritionist spoke to the rowing team. I was a freshman. I made changes to my diet and was amazed to see how it impacted my performance. I read every book I could get my hands on about nutrition, eventually discovering naturopathic medicine. I had never heard of it. I was blown away by the fact the profession existed, and it was exactly what Iβd truly been wanting to do.
Influenced by my mom, who is Italian and made everything from scratch, not eating like this was foreign to me. When I went to college, I realized that there are a lot of people who didnβt grow up eating homemade food. Plus, the food on campus was really disgusting.
At the time, I wasnβt sure what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to do something where I could see the benefit of what I was doing in other people. I wanted it to be healthcare related but not necessary medicine. Naturopathic medicine was the right fit.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Smith: Empower you to better health.
Patch: Whatβs the biggest challenge or most difficult moment youβve faced in your job?
Smith: Thereβs a misconception that you donβt need to invest in your health. But that is not the truth. Your health is your greatest investment.
Too often, people seeking care are used to receiving a quick fix. They flash their insurance card and are prescribed a drug. But this type of care doesnβt address the reason why the symptom is occurring. It doesnβt heal β¦ It simply addresses the symptom.
Combatting this way of thinking is the most difficult thing I face. Working with my practice isnβt a quick fix solution. Itβs a long-term, life-changing investment in your health. And itβs the absolute best investment you can make for yourself and your family.

Patch: Whatβs the most satisfying part of your job?
Smith: Hearing from people, βI feel like I did years ago β¦ I feel like I did 20 years ago.β I feel like my old self. I feel the best Iβve ever felt in my life.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Smith: We care, listen and deliver results. Itβs a comprehensive approach. We coach and guide people every step of the way.
Patch: Whatβs the best piece of advice youβve ever been given when it comes to success?
Smith: Invest in your people. People are your most valuable asset.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors youβre working on that youβre extra excited about?
Smith: We recently added a new naturopathic physician to our practice, Dr. Daemon Jones. (Dr. Dae) Iβve known Dae for years, and she brings an incredible attitude, mindset and skill set to our practice members and our team.
