Samaritan's Purse stands ready to respond at a moment’s notice whenever and wherever disaster strikes. When Hurricane Florence left a path of devastation and destruction through North Carolina, hundreds of families, including New Bern citizens Kathy Warren and Robin Hollingsworth, lost everything in the storm’s floodwaters. Samaritan's Purse volunteers helped families salvage personal belongings, mud-out their homes, and clear storm debris.

In disaster areas, Samaritan’s Purse partners with a local church, where it sets up a command center, mobilizes volunteers and serves the community in need. Samaritan’s Purse and its army of volunteers help families recover after a catastrophe. Depending on the nature of a disaster, volunteers may tear out damaged drywall, remove flooring, put tarps on damaged roofs, remove debris and help homeowners salvage personal belongings.

Last year, 16,932 volunteers served more than 487,115 hours with Samaritan’s Purse, helping some 4,500 U.S. families recover from 18 disasters spanning 12 states, including tornadoes in Iowa, flooding in Texas and Hawaii, wildfires in California and hurricanes in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Since 1998, Samaritan’s Purse has responded to 223 domestic disasters in 37 states, helping more than 43,000 families.

Last year, Federal employees contributed more than $93 million to thousands of local, national, and international causes in both funds and volunteer time.

Through their generosity in the CFC, federal and military personnel have helped find cures for children with cancer, supported injured military veterans and their families, provided meals and housing for those in need, and improved millions of lives, building stronger, healthier communities for all of us.
