Charlotte Animal Shelter Needs Kitten Nursery Volunteers

CMPD's Animal Care & Control has 37 orphaned kittens that need to be bottle fed. Here's how you can help.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” For anyone with a little extra time on their hands and space in their heart for cuteness overload, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control has an opportunity for you! The shelter is currently home to 37 orphaned kittens and they need volunteers to help bottle feed them.

β€œVolunteers are needed to feed these little ones after 6:30 pm every day (but there are other shifts that also need to be filled).” AC&C said in a tweet Tuesday.

Here’s a job description for a nursery volunteer, AC&C said:

  • Feeding kittens according to feeding procedures and sanitation protocols
  • Make accurate notes on the kittens daily care sheets
  • Clean kitten's cages according to protocols
  • Empty trash as needed
  • Wash dishes and do laundry as needed
  • Provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for the kittens within the nursery
  • Be emotionally prepared to care for fading kittens and those who pass away

When working within the nursery, you'll need to:

  • Keep kittens warm at all times
  • Provide kittens with adequate nutrition
  • Keep kittens clean at all times
  • Do your best to protect them from infectious disease
  • Stimulate them to urinate and defecate
