Charlotte Country Day Coach Arrested With Two Guns At School
A Charlotte Country Day coach was arrested after he threatened another school coach with a gun during a fight at school, police say.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A basketball coach at Charlotte Country Day was arrested Wednesday after he got into a fight with another school coach and threatened him with a gun.
The incident at the prestigious private school occurred after school hours on the school campus at 1440 Carmel Road Wednesday night around 6:30 p.m. Police responded to the school after receiving a 911 call for an assault with a deadly weapon, and were told by the schoolβs security that the incident occurred when two basketball coaches got into a fight.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, JV Womenβs basketball coach Tyrez Tarell Neal, 29, threatened Varsity Menβs basketball assistant coach Dijuan Harris, 29, with a gun when the two got into a fight. Responding officers found two firearms belonging to Neal, CMPD said.

Mark Reed, Head of School at Country Day, said in a statement Thursday morning that both coaches, who worked part-time at the school, had been fired.
βIt is my understanding that one of the men, who had a concealed carry permit, had a weapon with him during but not before the incident took place,β Reed said. βBoth coaches, like all employees of Charlotte Country Day School, passed a background check prior to their employment.β

Neal was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriffβs Office, where he remained in custody Wednesday night.
