Charlotte Woman Wins $130K Playing NC Lottery App

CHARLOTTE, NC — After six years of playing her own numbers, a Charlotte woman scored a $130,000 lottery win by playing a game online through a mobile app, North Carolina Education Lottery announced.

Christene Costello won the prize playing the Cash 5 jackpot through the NCEL's Official Mobile App for the June 21 drawing. She claimed her prize at lottery headquarters earlier this week, and took home $91,923 after paying taxes.

“I’m still in shock,” she said. “I’m still trying to feel like it’s real.”

The win couldn't have come at a better time, Costello told lottery officials.

“I had a flood in my house,” Costello said. “So, I was trying to figure out how I was going to afford to do the upper cabinets. This came at a good time.” She said she also plans to buy her son a washer and dryer as a housewarming gift for his new home.
