Armed, Barricaded Suspect Apprehended After 2-Hour Standoff
CMPD said its SWAT Team worked with negotiators to de-escalate the standoff in the southwest Charlotte apartment complex.
CHARLOTTE, NC β An armed suspect who had fired at officers while barricaded in a southwest Charlotte apartment was taken into custody after a standoff that stretched more than two hours, police confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
No officers were injured and police said they are not looking for any additional suspects.
The incident began shortly after 1:30 p.m., when officers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 13500 block of Little Abbey Lane.

"As officers knocked on the door and announced themselves, a suspect inside the residence discharged several rounds from a weapon at them," CMPD said in a statement.
Dozens of police officers responded to the scene, along with CMPD's Special Weapons and Tactics Team. Police evacuated residents in surrounding apartments and shut down traffic on South Tryon and Steelecroft Parkway.

"As officers worked to ensure the safety of those in the immediate area, the suspect continued to discharge additional rounds," which prompted officers to request assistance from the SWAT Team.
Following negotiation attempts, the suspect, who was not immediately identified, surrendered to SWAT officers around 4 p.m.
"The name of the suspect will be released after he has been formally charged," CMPD said.
CMPD said anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911, or leave information anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
