Delivering Masks and Meds for Seniors

Harry Patel RPH, pharmacist in Charlotte North Carolina, has figured out a way to help out homebound seniors during this COVID-19 crisis. Together with his wife, local dentist Dr. Hasmi Patel, Harry has manufactured and donated over 1000 masks to home bound seniors in the greater Charlotte area.

Harry is the owner of Austin Drugs located in Monroe, NC. He supplies pill packs of medication to assisted living facilities, nursing homes and delivers medications to shut in seniors as well as local families. His wife, Dr. Hasmi Patel, is a dentist who works in the Fort Mill area, is currently home due to the "Stay at home" order. Harry heard the concerns of seniors while delivering medications to their homes. He realized they were at a huge disadvantage when it came to getting their hands on protective equipment to stay safe.

“You’re good with your hands, so why don’t we make masks to protect the seniors?”Harry asked his wife. "We thought it was a great idea because many seniors are complaining that they cannot get out to the stores and online services are all sold out. Some of them don’t even know how to order using the internet. Seniors are scared” explained Harry. Their efforts were so successful that other family members had to pitch in to help meet the demand."What better way than to remind seniors that Austin Drugs is here extending a helping hand in times of need”. Wells Fargo supported their efforts by donating sewing machines and supplies to the cause which helped tremendously. "If there are seniors in need of masks, we are encouraging them to call our pharmacy. We will do our best to deliver help to them."
