CHARLOTTE, NC — Former Carolina Panther and XFL running back Torrold Smart has been located and is safe, according to authorities, hours after he was reported missing from his suburban Charlotte home.

Earlier Tuesday, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said Smart, 42, was last seen Wednesday, June 12 around 10:30 a.m. in Indian Land. He was driving a silver 2016 Nissan Maxima with North Carolina tag PJR1759.

Smart is described as 6-foot tall and 199 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

“It is unusual for him to be out of touch for this long. Mr. Smart’s family is worried about his safety and well-being,” LCSO had said.

In 2005, Smart wrapped up three years playing for the Panthers and is well-known for his unique on-field nickname, “He Hate Me.” It was a moniker he chose in 2001 for his jersey while playing for the now-defunct XFL’s Las Vegas Outlaws, TMZ reported. "Basically, my opponent is going to hate me,” he said at the time, explaining it to reporters. “After I win, he's gonna hate me."
