Here’s How Much You Must Make To Buy A Charlotte-Area Home

Charlotte is among the 25 least expensive metro areas to purchase a home in the U.S.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Charlotte area is one of the 25 least expensive metro areas to buy a home in the United States, according to a new report released this month. Charlotteans must make at least $47,467.51 to buy a home for the area’s median sale price of $233,200, according to the website HSH.com, which tracks mortgage rates.

Nationally, home buyers need an average salary of $55,390.57 to buy a home with a median sale price of $254,000. That makes the Queen City and suburbs the 17th least-expensive place to buy a home in the U.S.

Also among the cheapest metropolitan areas to buy a home in the U.S. is Raleigh, according to the report. In the Tar Heel state’s capital, a salary of $54,142.27 is needed to buy a home in the area where the median home price is $267,500.

The cheapest place to buy a home in the U.S. according to the report is in the Pittsburgh metro area, where a salary of $35,205.49 is needed to buy a home with the area’s median sale price of $146,000.

When it comes to the most expensive housing markets, California is home to the priciest properties in the nation with San Jose, San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles claiming the highest average mortgages.

In San Jose, a homebuyer needs to make at least $216,181.25 in salary in order to cover the average home price of $1.165 million. In New York, by contrast, a salary of $99,151.22 is needed for the average home price of $419,100.
