Homicide Probe Underway After Shooting In East Charlotte

The east Charlotte shooting left one victim dead and another injured, according to police, who say a homicide investigation is underway.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” A shooting in east Charlotte before dawn Sunday that left two people injured is now considered a homicide after one of the victims died hours later at an area hospital, according to Charlotte police.

According to a report by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident occurred in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive shortly before 2 a.m. June 20.

Officers responded to the neighborhood after receiving an emergency call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon, and located two victims who had been shot. Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

One of the victims had life-threatening injuries, and around 5 a.m. was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. CMPD did not immediately identify the victim, pending family notification.

CMPD said the homicide investigation is active and ongoing, and asked that anyone with information about this incident call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
