βBeing able to reconnect families and friends with residents during the Fatherβs Day weekend will strengthen social ties and comfort those that are detained in our detention center,β Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said.
Maintaining family connections is an essential component for inmates integrating back into the community, he said.
For more than a year, in-person visits have not been allowed due to coronavirus precautions. During that time, inmates were allotted two 10-minute internet video calls and a five-minute phone call each week. Prior to pandemic protocols, inmates were allowed two video communications and one in-person face-to-face visit a week, The Charlotte Observer reported.
