National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day: These Dogs Need Forever Homes

In honor of National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day, here are animals from North Meck Animal Rescue in need of homes.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Each year, nearly 7 million companion animals are housed in animal shelters in the U.S. as they wait for new homes. The wait, however, is often deadly for the critters. Around 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized annually, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Monday, April 30 is National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day, which means that there's no better time to remember the heaps of animals in our region looking for forever homes. North Meck Animal Rescue has many animals available for adoption. Could you offer a loving home?

Here are some animals from the North Meck Animal Rescue that need forever homes:

Rome
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œRome is an adorable lab/hound mix little boy that was rescued from a rural NC shelter. He is shy at first, but comes around quickly and always has his tail wagging. Rome will be a great addition to a home with children older than 8 since he does tend to be on the shy side.”

Sadie
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œSadie and her 4 siblings are a beautiful litter of puppies that were turned into a rural NC shelter. They are happy pups that are ready for families of their own. We think they will end up med. size dogs. These pups are around 12 weeks and have had their first set of vaccines.”

Martha
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œMeet Martha! Martha is a sweet 4 year old pit bull who is looking for a forever home and a family to love. Sadly, Martha was found wondering alone outside after her owner died. Thanks to a good Samaritan she found her way to a good foster home and is eagerly waiting to have a home of her own. She loves to go on long walks but also enjoys being a couch potato. She is easy going and would make a great companion. Martha is 65 lbs, potty trained, and is so well behaved she doesn't need a crate.”

April
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œApril is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met. Though she's a lab mix and likes to play, she's also content laying around with her doggie pals. She is a smart girl who is eager to please her people. She loves giving kisses and getting belly rubs! She loves other dogs and is very submissive with them. April is around a year old, spayed, up to date on vaccines and on heartworm prevention.”

Zeke
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œZeke is a 2-3 year old Doberman who is thrilled to have attention and shows his appreciation with some very skilled wiggling, wagging and smooching. He has been very happy to meet the other dogs in his current foster home, though his young dog zest for life seems to be better appreciated by the non-senior pack members. Zeke takes great comfort from being close to his new human friends and is beginning to learn how to do life in a house, off a chain, and as a family member.”

Emmy
Says North Meck Animal Rescue: β€œMeet Emmy! Emmy is a sweet, smart, and loving dog! She has a great energy and loves to play! Though she’d prefer to play with people, she also does quite well entertaining herself with Kongs and food puzzles. Intelligent and eager to learn, Emmy would excel at obedience training. She LOVES all people, she is gentle and is excellent at cuddling and giving hugs. She is a shelter favorite.”
