NFL Draft 2019: Carolina Panthers’ Pick, How To Watch, Odds

CHARLOTTE, NC — The 2019 NFL Draft is finally here, Carolina Panthers fans. It’s perhaps the most exciting three days of the year for many teams, particularly last year’s worst performers. Scouts, executives and coaches try to find the next Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Odell Beckham Jr. in college and plug any glaring holes on the team.

This year, the Carolina Panthers will draft in the 16th spot, just ahead of New York Giants and behind the Washington Redskins. The draft was to begin around 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rounds 2 and 3 are to begin Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by Rounds 4 through 7 on Saturday beginning at noon.

Among the big names to watch for this year were quarterbacks Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock and Daniel Jones; defensive ends Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams and Jachai Polite; linebackers Josh Allen and Devin White; defensive tackles Rashan Gary and Ed Oliver; and offensive tackles Jonah Williams and Jawaan Taylor.

News reports in recent months suggested the Arizona Cardinals were seriously considering drafting star Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Murray with the first overall pick, despite the team having drafted quarterback Josh Rosen a year ago.

Here are the chances each player is selected No. 1 overall according to bookmakers:

• Kyler Murray, 85.7%
• Nick Bosa, 21.3%
• Quinnen Williams, 14.29%
• Josh Allen, 4.76%
• Dwayne Haskins, 1.96%
• Drew Lock, 1.96%

While Murray clearly remains the favorite to be selected first overall, the odds that Williams will be the pick have surged, more than doubling from 4.8% to 12.5% in the last week, Pete Watt, a spokesman for Oddschecker.com, told Patch on Tuesday.

“We’ve known for a long time that Quinnen Williams is a physical freak but reports suggest that NFL execs rate his understanding of the game as highly as his athleticism,” Watt said.

He added that Sam Darnold was expected to go first last year right up until draft day. Instead, the Cleveland Browns took superstar quarterback Baker Mayfield, and Darnold fell to the New York Jets at No. 3.

In other words, anything can happen. A successful $100 bet on Murray would only result in a payout of $116.67. A successful $100 on Williams, however, would result in a payout of $700.

And if you’re feeling really lucky, a correct $100 bet on any among Gary, White, Taylor, Wiliams or Polite, would result in a payout of $10,100. The odds that each is the No. 1 pick are less than 1 percent.
