Rabid Fox Found In Charlotte: Is Your Pet Protected?
Animal control officials are reminding pet owners to keep rabies vaccinations up to date after a rabid fox was discovered in Mint Hill.

CHARLOTTE, NC β A Charlotte-area pet was recently exposed to a rabid fox, prompting Charlotte Animal Care & Control officials to remind area pet owners to make sure rabies vaccinations are up to date.
Residents near the Allen Black Road in Mint Hill will be officially notified by 7 p.m. Tuesday with details of the fox found in that area of the county that tested positive for rabies after an area pet had βexposureβ with it, ACC said.
βThe domestic pet exposed to the fox had a current rabies vaccination and therefore only needed be given a rabies booster,β ACC said in a statement.

Animal control reminds pet owners that North Carolina law requires all dogs, cats and ferrets kept as pets must be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age.
For pet owners in need of shots, Animal Care & Control offers a free monthly clinic for Mecklenburg County residents. The clinic is the second Saturday each month, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the animal shelter located at 8315 Byrum Drive in Charlotte.

Pet owners can also purchase microchips for their pets for $10 and receive free pet I.D. tags at the clinic.
