Search On For Driver After Fatal Hit And Run Kills Boy: CMPD

Police are searching for a 2016 -2017 Chevrolet Equinox with a damaged front right headlight after a 13-year-old boy was struck and killed.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” Charlotte police are asking for the public's help locating a Chevrolet Equinox with damaged to the front, right headlight after a 13-year-old boy was struck and killed in an early morning hit-and-run in north Charlotte on Sunday.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near the 4000 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they located the injured victim, who was later identified as Kevin Gaviel Osorto, and learned the driver had fled the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, Osorto was walking along the right shoulder of the southbound side of East W. T. Harris Boulevard when he was struck, CMPD said.

"Debris from the collision aided detectives in identifying the suspect vehicle as a 2016 or 2017 Chevrolet Equinox," CMPD said. "Although the color of the actual suspect vehicle is not yet known, detectives indicate the front, right headlight will be damaged."

CMPD said anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle or its driver is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
