Storms, Possible Wintry Precipitation This Week: Metro Forecast

Heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph were expected throughout the Charlotte metro Monday morning.

CHARLOTTE, NC β€” Torrential rain moving through the greater Charlotte metro could lead to isolated flooding, the National Weather Service said Monday morning.

Heavy rain showers with gusty winds up to 40 mph were expected in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan and Union counties.

"The combination of gusty winds and saturated soil conditions will cause scattered trees and power lines to fall," NWS said in a weather bulletin.

Soggy conditions are expected to clear up Monday evening, however returning rain and chilly temperature could mean wintry precipitation for the region late Tuesday evening, NWS said.

"A fast-moving low pressure system will bring a chance of wintry precipitation late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning to the northern side of the I-85 corridor," NWS said. "No significant accumulation is expected at this time."
