Tornadoes Confirmed In North Carolina Thursday: NWS
The National Weather Service in Raleigh confirmed tornados touched down near Whitsett, High Point and in Orange County Thursday.
NORTH CAROLINA β At least three tornadoes that touched down in North Carolina Thursday, the National Weather Service in Raleigh confirmed Friday.
The news comes one day after severe weather blanketed much of the state, prompting widespread warnings of gusty winds, large hail, heavy rain and possible tornadoes.
One tornadic storm was confirmed on the ground for about five minutes in High Point, North Carolina around 5 p.m., NWS said. The EF-0 tornado was about 100 yards wide and had a wind speed of about 85 mph.

About 30 minutes later, an EF-1 tornado about 200 yards wide with wind speeds of about 100 mph touched down near Whitsett in Guilford County. "The tornado was on the ground intermittently for approximately 5 min," along a path of about 2.5 miles, NWS said via Twitter.

A woman spotted the funnel cloud while videoing weather conditions in Burlington.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, another tornado touched down in Orange County, NWS said. That tornado, which was about 200 yards wide, also had peak wind speeds of about 100 mph. It was intermittently on the ground for about six minutes and covered a path of about 4.25 miles, NWS said.
