CORNELIUS, NC — This year, Cornelius' Memorial Day ceremony is going virtual, the town announced.
The Town of Cornelius and the American Legion Post 86 will hold the town's annual Memorial Day celebration Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
Say organizers, "Join the Town of Cornelius and American Legion Post 86 as we honor our nation's servicemen and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. With shelter-in-place and social distancing protocols, this beautiful ceremony that is held annually at the Cornelius Veteran’s Monument at Rotary Plaza is transitioning to a virtual program for 2020!"

Serving as Master of Ceremonies this year is Commander Gene McKinney. Mayor Wood Washam is scheduled to give the event's welcome, and Pastor David Judge of First Baptist Church will deliver the invocation.
The key note speaker is Lt. Col. Shawn Cowley, deputy director of CMS JROTC.
