About 400 people attended the CMS Foundation’s 2019 Schoolanthropy Luncheon at the Charlotte Convention Center Sept. 27. It featured student performances, teacher tributes and remarks from area leaders.

“The voices of our students resonate as what matters most,” said Sonja Gantt, executive director of the foundation. “This event allows each of us to think about the voices of our students.”

The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the CMS Foundation, which generates financial investment to support Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Its mission is to develop a community-wide culture of schoolanthropy – the support of public education – and is a bridge between the district and the donor community.

“While we at CMS are focused on teaching and learning, the CMS Foundation focuses on supporting our district,” said Earnest Winston, CMS superintendent. “That will move us from a good district to a great district.”
