2020 Primary In Cornelius: Early Voting Ends Saturday

CORNELIUS, NC —North Carolina’s Super Tuesday presidential primary election is next week, which means early voting currently underway in Mecklenburg County will wrap up this weekend.

The presidential primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 3, and now is a good time for voters to prepare by checking deadlines, voter registration status and other information.

Below are dates to know and other guidelines for absentee voting and preparing for Election Day.

One-Stop Early Voting — Thursday, Feb. 13 through Saturday, Feb. 29
Early voting begins at a limited number of polling sites around the county throughout February. All sites are open during the same hours on early voting days.

Early Voting Dates and Hours:

• Monday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 21: 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 22: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
• Sunday, Feb. 23: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
• Monday, Feb. 24 through Friday, Feb. 28: 8 a.m. - 7: 30 p.m.
• Saturday, Feb. 29 (Last Day): 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

There are 20 early voting sites in Mecklenburg County. Here are the early voting sites in the Lake Norman area:

• Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius
• Huntersville North Library, 16500 Holly Crest Lane, Huntersville

Absentee Voting By Mail — Jan. 13 through 5 p.m., March 3, 2020
Voters seeking an absentee ballot by mail may do so by filling out a ballot request form and returning it to the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections at P.O. Box 31788, Charlotte, NC 28231. The deadline to request a ballot is Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. More information about absentee voting may be found here.

Voter Registration, Candidates and Election Day Voting
On Primary Election Day on March 3, polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Iredell County voters may find their polling place here.

Photo ID Requirements
Despite a new state law, North Carolina voters will not be required to show photo identification in the March 3 election.

North Carolina's new voter identification law was temporarily blocked from implementation Feb. 18 by a three-judge panel on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, who said the new law, as written, was likely intended to racially discriminate against the state's African American voters.
