Sgt. Melquiades Perez, team leader in the 65th MP Company (ABN), 503D Military Police Battalion (Airborne), 16th MP Brigade, was patrolling Fort Bragg, N.C. on 15 Aug. and responded to a suicide attempt.
Sgt. Perez found out the location and rushed over to the woman. He used his interpersonal communication skills to calm the woman down, relate to her, and convince her not to take her own life. Due to his actions that day, he saved her life and also prevented a child from losing his mother to suicide.
Sgt. Perez is an example of a hard-working yet relatable MP who not only enforces the law, but makes it his mission to assist the Ft. Bragg community.
