3 Fort Stewart Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Three 3rd Infantry Division soldiers were killed Saturday during an enemy attack.

Three 3rd Infantry Division soldiers were killed in Afghanistan Saturday, according to a Fort Stewart press release.

The soldiers died in Kandahar from wounds suffered when their unit was attacked by enemy forces using a vehicle-borne explosive device, according to the release.

Killed were Staff Sgt. Christopher M. Ward, Spc. Wilbel A. Robles-Santa and Spc. Deflin M. Santos Jr. All were cavalry scouts assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team.

Ward, 24, was a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Ward joined the Army in November of 2005. THis was his third deployment.

Robles-Santa, 25, was a native of Juncos, Puerto Rico. He joined the Army in October of 2010. This was his second deployment.

Santos, 24, was a San Jose, Calif., native. He joined the Army in February of 2007 and was on his second deployment.
