CDC Authorizes Pfizer Vaccine For 12 – 15 Year Olds
The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to individuals ages 12 to 15.

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to individuals ages 12 to 15, in accordance with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. The first opportunity the Health Department will offer the vaccine to juveniles will be Thursday, May 14, at the clinic at Fayetteville Housing Authority Clinic, 229 Lincoln Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wednesday, May 13, the CDC approved the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ recommendation for juveniles ages 12 to 15 to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine was authorized for individuals 16 and older (Group 5) on April 7.
Cumberland County Department of Public Health offers COVID-19 vaccinations Monday through Friday for all individuals (age 12 and up) at various locations. Residents are encouraged to get the COVID-19 vaccine, continue to practice social distancing, wear masks, and wash hands frequently as the number of positive cases in Cumberland County has increased.

Cumberland County Updates
The Health Department reports three Cumberland County residents have died of COVID-19 since May 1, bringing the total to 303 deaths. There have been 28,815 cases in Cumberland County reported since the onset of the pandemic.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ County Alert System indicates a slight increase in positive cases in Cumberland County, according to the most recent data taken from April 11 – 24. Cumberland is one of 34 counties in the state which has moved from the Yellow Tier (Significant Spread, 5 – 7.9% positive rate) to the Orange Tier (Substantial Spread, 8 – 10%). According to the NCDHHS, COVID-19 spread statewide is mostly occurring among young adults. Data is updated every two weeks.
Cumberland County’s COVID-19 positive test rate is at 8.7%. The World Health Organization recommends a positive rate of 5%.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reports that 24.1% of Cumberland County’s population has received their first vaccination shot while 21.1% are fully vaccinated.
Fourteen providers in Cumberland County offer vaccinations at 20 locations. Find your spot at https://myspot.nc.gov/ to become fully vaccinated.

An online application form allows individuals to choose their own appointment date and time for the first dose and second dose of the vaccine.
