Elk Run Thief Apprehended

Cumberland County Sheriff’s detectives have apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with one of two armed robberies in the Elk Run subdivision.

On August 19, 2013 a resident in the area checking her mail was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown assailant who demanded money. Fortunately, she was unharmed.

On August 22, 2013 a 17-year old moving vehicles around on his property was approached by a suspect with a handgun demanding money. The victim slapped the weapon away and ran. He was then shot in the leg by the suspect.

Today, detectives have charged 20-year old Quantae Symel Jones of 3024 Highplains Drive, Hope Mills. An investigation determined Jones robbed and shot the 17-year old, who is his neighbor.

Jones is charged with armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and conspiracy. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.

Jones has a prior armed robbery conviction for a crime he committed in July, 2009. He served more than a year in a North Carolina prison.

Jones is expected to make a first court appearance on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center Courtroom on these latest charges.
