Fayetteville Man Charged for Scamming the American Red Cross

David Lee Skipper was arrested and charged and is being held at the detention center.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Fire Investigators have arrested a Fayetteville man and charged him with scamming the American Red Cross out of close to $300.

David Lee Skipper, 23, formerly of 2517 Pinecrest Drive, allegedly went to the Highland Chapter on May 15, 2013 asking for assistance according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Skipper told volunteers his residence had burned down, and he lived with his mother and two siblings. The fire occurred on May 12, 2013 however, Skipper and his family were evicted from the home on February 8, 2013.

On May 15, 2013 Skipper received $238 from the Red Cross for food and two hotel rooms for two nights stay.

Skipper is charged with obtaining property by false pretense. He was already being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on unrelated charges under $10,000 bond; bringing his total bond to $15,000. Skipper will make a first court appearance on Friday, June 14, 2013 in the Detention Center courtroom at 2:30 p.m.
