Five Reminders for Cumberland County Schools This Week

Oct. 5 Event – School-Wide Yard Sale
E.E. Smith High will be holding a school-wide yard sale on Saturday, October 5 from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the school’s auditorium parking lot. Monies raised during the sale will support the school’s Reading Rocks! Walk-A-Thon effort.

Oct. 8 Board of Education Meeting and Public Forum
The Cumberland County Board of Education will meet on Tuesday in the auditorium of the CCS’ Educational Resource Center, located at 396
Elementary Drive. The meeting will begin with a public forum session. The Board plans to recognize the following groups or individuals: North Carolina Media Coordinator of the Year, Amazing Acts of Character recipients, Cross Creek Early College and Howard Health & Life Sciences high school staffs regarding 100% graduation rate, and 10 Title 1 Reward Schools.

Oct. 9 Principal of the Year Announcement
The 2013-2014 Cumberland County Schools’ Principal of the Year (POY) will be
announced during a special luncheon on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the
Orangery at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The following local principals have been selected by their peers to compete for the POY title: Michele Cain (Cumberland Road Elementary), Jeanna Daniels (Beaver Dam Elementary), Brian Edkins (South View High), Tom Hatch (Reid Ross Classical), Mellotta Hill (Howard Hall Elementary), Maria Pierce-Ford (Luther “Nick” Jeralds Middle), Scott Pope (Max Abbott Middle), Peggy Raymes (Margaret Willis Elementary) and Kim Robertson (Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary). The local winner will go on to compete for the Sandhills/South Central Region POY title.
