
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested a man wanted for breaking into more than a dozen vehicles in communities along Chickenfoot Road.
Luis Alfonso Mercado, 27, 3581 Birchfield Court was taken into custody late last night. He allegedly made away with numerous items that were stolen from a vehicle parked along Kalmia Lane. Some of the items were a gift card, a wallet containing a debit card, social security card, drivers license, GPS and cell phone charger.
Mercado’s spending spree was later traced to Murphy USA, North Main Street in Hope Mills. He was seen on surveillance video purchasing gasoline with the gift card.
Mercado is charged with eight counts of felony breaking and entering, eight counts of misdemeanor larceny and eight counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a 15 thousand dollar, secured bond. A first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center courtroom.
