Medical testing at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center revealed the victim suffered from a left side rib fracture and acute subdural hematoma. He was later transferred to Duke University Hospital. Doctors there discovered multiple subdural hematomas of different ages, contusions to the head, a healing rib fracture, bruises on his left eyelid and under his right eye and extensive retinal hemorrhages. Doctors have determined these injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma.
Pascarella is being held on a $150,000 bond in the Cumberland County Detention Center, on charges of felony child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
He is scheduled to make a first court appearance this afternoon in the Detention Center courtroom.
