Weekend activities listed below take place at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
July 6 & 7 – Bess Beetle Math: Crawl in to check out our version of the bessbug test of strength, a common science demonstration that allows you to observe and quantify the pulling power of a bessbug. Little ones will enjoy a creepy crawly race between the beetles!

July 13 & 14 – Owl Pellet: Whooooo wants to know owl there is to know about what our feathered friends had for lunch? Dig into the gross science behind why owls swallow their food whole and regurgitate a pellet. It’ll be a hoot.
July 20 & 21 – Dung Beetle Relay: Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’ keep that dung ball rollin’... it’s a race against your friends to see who can be the best dung ball roller of them all!
July 27 – Snail Trail: Things may be moving at a snail’s pace here, but have no fear, we’ll get to the finish line. Follow our slimy creatures and discover what makes them ooze with goo.
Wonderful Wednesdays
Join us each Wednesday for fun, themed activities throughout the Museum that take place at 11:15 and 2:15. Wonderful Wednesdays at Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham during July include:
· July 3 – Candy Animal Poo: This activity puts a whole new meaning to the word scat! Become scatologists to match poo up with its missing animal.
· July 10 – Blood Colors: Blood is red…or green, yellow, blue or even clear! Little scientists can drop into the amazing science of animal blood colors.
· July 17 – Fish Printing: We’re brimming and swimming with information about fish and their anatomy. You’ll be fishing for more creative juices when you make a piece of art …using a real fish!
· July 24 – Yak!: Puke, upchuck, yak or barf, this activity will have you spewing new knowledge about animal vomit as we make our own pretend ‘yak’.
· July 31 – A Meal of Mealworms– Inch on by the lab and dare to try a cheddar cheese mealworm. Brave ones that take the mealworm much will receive a special prize!
Special Programs
July 4 – Fourth of July: It may be hot outside, but it’s a cool day inside as we paint with ice in our Studio. Break the ice and show off your creative side making a unique piece of art, and enjoy a patriotic snack in our Hub at 11:15 & 2:15.
July 12 – Cow Appreciation Day: Hoof it to this extra-special day and show your appreciation for our beautiful and bountiful bovine buddies. Don’t forget to dress up like a cow, because we’ll be udderly excited to find the best-dressed cow for a special prize. You’ll feel very moo-ved by the day sipping a cold glass of milk at 11:15 & 2:15 in the Hub.

Science Show (3:45 p.m.)
Slime Time – Ooze with excitement over this experiment just for scientists-in-training making slime and learning all about our slick friends, the slugs.
Puppet Show (10:45 a.m. & 2:45 p.m.)
The Tortoise and the Hare: Run by to check out our all-new Puppet Show based on a classic tale. In this Puppet Show, learn how slow and steady wins the race!
Big Fun (11:45 a.m. & 4:45 p.m.) – Shake out the sillies!
Move and groove with us at the Sandhills Stage. Dance and sing to songs that will get you up and moving. From “Shake It All About” and “Stop and Go” to and “Bop till you Drop”, fun will be had by all!
This activity allows for a smooth transition for our young visitors who need to go home for lunch and naps or to end the day.
All Museum events and activities are free with admission.
