Get ready for it.
The 10th Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, will make their presence known as the unit’s twice annual artillery training returns to Fort Bragg, with significant amounts of heavy artillery fire from Oct. 9 to 25, 2013.
“We understand that this training may be disruptive to the local communities; the artillery fire is loud and rumbles the walls of our homes. We again ask the understanding and patience of the Sandhills communities – if the Marines do not train stateside the way they would fight, they will not be prepared to decisively engage the enemy and keep one another alive on the battlefield,” said Tom McCollum, Fort Bragg spokesman.
Installation restrictions will prohibit the massing of fires from battalion-sized formations between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Sundays.
Post officials reinforce that, while mass firing will be restricted in the overnight hours, this is not a complete prohibition on artillery training at night.
“To be proficient in their warrior skills, the Marines must train at night, and we greatly appreciate the public’s support,” McCollum said.
