Pope Field Air Traffic Control Tower Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Tuesday

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The 440th Airlift Wing will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Pope Field air traffic control tower, Tuesday, June 25 at 10 a.m.

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey N. Colt, XVIII Airborne Corps Deputy Commanding General; Brig. Gen. Norman R. Ham Jr., 440th Airlift Wing Commander; Col. Jeffrey M. Sanborn, Fort Bragg Garrison Commander; and Matthew Hoyle, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will participate in the ceremony.

A tour of the new 11-story facility will be conducted immediately following the ceremony. The tour will include the state of the art simulator, the air traffic control cab, the observation deck and some interior tower areas.

The new air traffic control tower replaces a tower built in the 1970’s. Updated technologies integrated into the new tower help improve communications, visibility, efficiency, and expands the capabilities at Fort Bragg and Pope Field.

Pope Field’s air traffic control tower is run by 29 employees and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.Brig. Gen. Norman R. Ham Jr., Commander of the 440th Airlift Wing, will host the ceremony and be available for comments after the ceremony has concluded.
