So who here doesn't ever vacuum?

Some thoughts on spring cleaning after I read a survey on household habits of Americans

Although it seems that North Carolina just went through its second (maybe third...) winter of the year, I'm still ready for spring cleaning. I want to get my office in shape and get some work done in the yard. I also wouldn't mind doing a deep clean of the kitchen. I recently found a survey that made me question some things about how people around the country clean.

One of the most startling responses was that 10 percent of people said they never vacuum their home. I just can't imagine. After asking friends and family about it, they offered an explanation. Maybe some people never vacuum because they have hardwood floors throughout and could Swiffer instead. I suppose that could be the case, but I still have a hard time believing they keep their house clean. I have a majority of hardwood / laminate floors but still vacuum them in addition to Swiffer/mopping. But I also have a dog, so there's no way I could get all his hair up without a vacuum.

Another interesting question that I saw from the survey was on energy usage. I thought it was surprising that double the amount of men say they will NOT make an effort to conserve energy. Now, this may make some sense because 'green living' can sometimes be seen as not as manly (not that I agree), but for me, conserving energy is saving money. I hate having to look at my energy or natural gas bill -- they are definitely my highest bills outside of rent. I'm all about trying to save some money, and if I can do that by changing the thermostat a degree or two or turning off lights not in use, I'm all for it.

Overall, there's some good stuff in that survey. I'd definitely check it out and compare your household habits to those across the country. For me, I'm going to keep vacuuming (it's usually a weekly thing for me). And I'm going to be part of the 1/3 of men who WILL try to conserve energy. I like spending money and hate having a high bill.
