Special Olympics Torch Run Passes Through Fayetteville and Fort Bragg
Running with a purpose.

On Thursday, May 29, 2013 the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics passed through Cumberland County. It started its journey with deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office receiving the torch from Lumberton Police and running the torch to Hay Street where it was handed to Fayetteville Police Officers to run the next 7 miles to the Fort Bragg Border.
Soldiers from the 16th Military Police Brigade took the torch from the Fayetteville Police Department at Knox Gate and ran it 3.5 miles to the Provost Marshal Office.
Once Fort Bragg completed their leg of the run, the torch continued its journey a number of miles with Fayetteville Police Officers. At the northern border, Fayetteville Police Officers will hand the torch over to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office to continue the flame along its journey.
Proceeds from the torch run go to support the North Carolina Special Olympics. Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department look forward to supporting the athletes and the Special Olympics every year.
