This Week at Cumberland County Schools

From preparedness to fun - don't miss it.

  • Schools Prepare to Drop, Cover and Hold Gov. Pat McCrory has proclaimed October 17 as Earthquake Preparedness Day in North Carolina. The Cumberland County School system will play its part by participating in the Great SouthEast ShakeOut Earthquake Exercise, scheduled for Thursday, October 17. This effort will help schools, students, and staff throughout the district be prepared in the event of an earthquake emergency.

  • 25,000 People Needed for 10th Anniversary Literacy Walk-A-Thon
Nearly 25,000+ Cumberland County School students, staff, parents, business partners, and community members are ‘expected’ to take part in the largest walk-a-thon Cumberland County has seen. The 10th Anniversary Reading Rocks! Walk-A-Thon for literacy starts at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 in Festival Park (Downtown Fayetteville). Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. The 1.3-mile trek will wind past several historic downtown sites. Bright sapphire blue Reading Rocks! T-shirts will be worn by participants. All proceeds will be used to purchase books for the benefit of CCS’ students.

Last year, the effort broke its own record with $245,000 in monetary and inkind contributions. For more information, call CCS’ Media Services Department at
