USAA CEO and retired Army Maj. Gen. Joe Robles announced that the financial services provider for the military community has signed on to the Joining Forces initiative. USAA was recognized at a White House event as one of a group of employers committed to hiring veterans and military spouses.
Joining Forces was created to bring attention and resources to military veterans, spouses, and active duty personnel and their families.

At the White House ceremony, the president, vice president, first lady and Dr. Jill Biden announced that 290,000 veterans or military spouses have been hired or trained, with an additional commitment of 435,000 veterans or military spouses hired by 2018.
"Just as America invests in its servicemen and women while they're in uniform, our nation's business community must invest in veterans, not just through jobs, but by giving them the tools they need to have a successful career," Robles said. "As more and more veterans return from service, initiatives like Joining Forces will encourage companies to work together to help veterans transition to successful civilian lives. We owe them at least that."

Since 2005, USAA has hired more than 6,000 military veterans and spouses. Today, one out of every four new hires at USAA is a veteran or military spouse, and USAA is now working to meet a new internal goal that 30% of the organization's new hires be veterans or military spouses.
USAA is the only organization to earn the top military-friendly employer titles from G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Military Times EDGE, all awarded in 2013. USAA also announced last week that it was joining the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes initiative established to help veterans find meaningful employment.
