Kids and parents: Yahoo! has important changes coming that could affect the status of account as of September 1, 2013.
Kids: Please ask your parent to sign in with their Yahoo! ID to give them permission for you to keep your account.
Parents: Yahoo! wants to keep your child's account(s) up and running. To do so, they'll need your permission to keep your child’s account active across Yahoo! products and services.
The Federal Trade Commission has issued amendments to its Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Rule. These amendments will go into effect on July 1, 2013. To stay in compliance with the amended COPPA Rule, they've updated their permission policies for users who are under 13 years old -- including your child.
Please note a few important deadlines:
- On July 1, 2013, your child’s account will be inaccessible until we receive parental permission. Once they receive parental permission, you can download the data and either keep your child’s account or close it at any time.
- On September 1, 2013, they will unfortunately be forced to close any child account that does not have parental permission.
