Benefits of Research and Talking to Experts Before an Operation

Greensboro has some of the best hospitals in the nation. But do you know what questions to ask before committing to a surgery?

I don’t think anyone likes getting surgery, but at least in Greensboro we have some of the best care that a hospital can offer. With hospitals such as Cone Health, Wesley Long and the Women’s Hospital, it is easy to find a hospital that best fits your needs. However, no matter how well-equipped a hospital is, you need to prepare too. There is a great article from Weiss & Paarz Medical Malpractice that compiles a complete list of questions to ask your surgeon before surgery. The complete article can be found here. This article definitely made me feel better prepared and more confident as I prepared for my procedure.

There are so many benefits to gain from talking to your surgeon before your operation. Do not be afraid to speak up, they’ve heard everything before! Every year, more than 15 million Americans have surgery. Most operations are not emergencies and are considered elective surgery. This means that you have the time to learn about your operation to be sure that it is the best treatment for your problem. Doctors and patients should be able to talk openly about what is going to happen and what could potentially happen during or after the operation.

Surgery can be an anxious and nerve-racking experience for a patient, especially when patients are unfamiliar with the medical procedure that they’re about to receive. Luckily, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is high performing in nine procedures/conditions, and it is ranked #5 in all of North Carolina. The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital and Women’s Hospital have also all earned the Healthgrades 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. The distinction recognizes the hospitals as being among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for clinical performance. All three of these hospitals also ranked in the top three percent in the nation for quality, earning five stars. Greensboro, give yourself a pat on the back.
