Guilford County Government: Richardson-Taylor Preserve Designated 2021 Wetland Treasure Of The Carolinas

The Carolina Wetlands Association designated Guilford County Parks’ Richardson-Taylor Preserve as a 2021 Wetland Treasure of the Carolinas during May – American Wetlands Month. To celebrate, staff will conduct a small in-person tour on Saturday, June 5 with the proper safety precautions. This includes standard COVID-19 protocol of masks, social distancing and all participants must register in advance.

“Richardson-Taylor Preserve is a beautiful property with a diverse ecosystem, including protected wetland areas” said Matt Wallace, Guilford County Parks. “We’re happy to team up with Carolina Wetlands Association to begin highlighting some of Guilford County Parks’ passive parks.”

The designation of Wetland Treasures across the Carolinas selects wetlands that are ecologically valuable, protected by conservation plans, and home to an abundance of plant and animal diversity. All the designated Wetland Treasures provide many ecosystem services to the benefit of human wellbeing such as water quality, flood control, habitat, recreation, and a host of other services.

“We are excited to highlight and celebrate the 2021 Wetland Treasure sites” said Carrie Caviness, Carolina Wetland Association. “We hope Carolinians will take pride in our wetland heritage, and we owe a great deal of gratitude to the organizations and agencies that are protecting these natural treasures,” said Caviness.
