Guilford County Government: Summer Employment Opportunities Available With Guilford County Parks

Guilford County Parks is hiring part-time summer staff. They’re seeking Parks Attendants, Parks Cashiers, and Parks Events Host. These are great opportunities for teens, college students, teachers and other professionals seeking part-time summer employment, retirees, and everyone who wants to make a positive contribution to the parks. Working with the parks is perfect for those who love the outdoors and are interested in pursuing a career in outdoor recreation.

• Park Attendants (Parks Ground Tech Asst.) work includes cutting away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain trails, sidewalks, or to improve appearance, health, and value of tree. Work typically requires the use of riding mowers, tractors, light duty trucks, light duty backhoe operations, light duty front end loader and a various of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, axes, sprayers, and tools for maintenance of equipment.

• Parks Cashiers perform work to receive and disburse money which usually involves the use of cash registers and processing credit or debit card transactions and validating payments.  An employee in this class makes change, tracks, and records sales and otherwise provides customer service to facility patrons. Work includes greeting patrons and being able to adequately answer patron inquiries.

• Parks Events Host (Northeast Park) takes care of any facility related needs of customers who have rented the facility after 5 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends and holidays. They check room set-ups and make adjustments if needed, adjust room temperatures, provide additional furniture, assist the bartenders when needed, remove garbage, perform light housekeeping by checking restrooms for toilet paper, paper towels and cleanliness, occasionally re-set rooms between events, lock and secure the facility at the end of the event.

All applicants will be considered on a rolling basis, with interview sessions and employment decisions occurring throughout the spring months. There are no guaranteed number of hours per week. The position could be in any one of the Guilford County Parks. The location information will be discussed at the time of interview. All first-year staff will start at the minimum.
