Greenville Woman Found Dead In River Was Killed Violently: Report
Kristen Stone's body was recovered in the Cape Fear River on Aug. 9. A new report says she asphyxiated in some way.

GREENVILLE, NC — A Greenville woman whose body was recovered in the Cape Fear River last year was killed violently and had a zip tie placed around one of her wrists, local media outlets reported.
A fisherman found Kristen Stone's body on Aug. 9, a day after family reported her missing. A state medical examiner determined Stone, 19, might have been smothered, drowned, suffocated or suffered some other method of asphyxiation, The Fayetteville Observer reported Friday.
Charles Cottingham, 33, an Air Force veteran, has been charged with 1st-degree murder in her death. He's s slated to appear in court later this month.

Cottingham was previously charged with sexually assaulting her the newspaper said, citing an autopsy report.
