2 Lake Norman High School Students will $10K UTI Scholarships

MOORESVILLE, NC — Two Lake Norman High School students won $10,000 Universal Technical Institute Scholarships Saturday during a competition at the NASCAR Technical Institute, the Mooresville school announced.

Students Eric Kehe and Zachary Foster won the scholarships as a winning two-person team after demonstrating know-how in all competitive areas, the school said.

Tyler Tho and Thomas McCullough of South Iredell High School in Statesville finished second, winning a $7,500 scholarship, and Nevan Hopkins and Khy Meyers of Hamilton Career Center in Westminster, South Carolina came in third, winning a $5,000 scholarship.

The April 17 competition included 15 teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, who competed at the Mooresville campus in hands-on and written tests on vehicle part, engines, diagnostics and electrical systems using NASCAR Tech's facility and equipment.

“It is incredibly valuable for high school students to have the opportunity to develop these skills in automotive technology, and we always look forward to celebrating their achievements,” said Jennifer Bergeron, campus president at NASCAR Technical Institute. “Our campuses have been hosting the Top Tech Challenge competition for more than a decade now, and each time we’re impressed by students’ breadth and depth of knowledge.”
