5 Things To Know About The Most Recent ISS School Board Meeting
This week, the Iredell-Statesville School Board approved some personnel changes and a new Superintendent contract amendment.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The Iredell-Statesville School Board met Monday, June 14 and approved personnel changes, a contract amendment for Superintendent Jeff James, as well as affirmed organizational changes at the district level expected to save the district money.
Here are five takeaways from the Iredell-Statesville School Board's June 14 meeting, according to the district:
- The board approved a one-year contract extension and an $18,000 pay raise for Superintendent Jeff James. Says the school district, "Dr. James' previous contract was for $162,000. His new contract is for $180,000 annually. Of this amount, the state pays $137,256 of Dr. James salary. This is still below the average pay for superintendents in similar size districts across our state."
- The school board approved district-level organizational restructuring that reduced staff numbers, saving the school district $600,000 in salary and benefits. Said Superintendent James, “I am working to streamline our district operations so that we have a qualified and hard-working group of administrators that provide the maximum benefit to our district with the most cost savings possible.”
- School officials affirmed a plan to increase pay for classified employees every five years. "Our goal is to get our classified staff on a pay table that allows yearly bumps in pay," James said. "We want to put money where it counts the most, in our people that do the work daily throughout the district."
- Kelly Shoffner was approved as principal at South Iredell High School. Shoffner most recently served as principal at Rowan-Salisbury Schools. She has also served as assistant principal at South Iredell High School and East Iredell Elementary, ISS said.
- Jennifer Dalton, who served as assistant principal of Third Creek Elementary School for the past three years, was approved as principal for Cool Spring Elementary School. "Previously, she served as a classroom teacher, Response to Instruction (RtI) Specialist, and school counselor," ISS said.
