Fewer Than 10 COVID Cases Confirmed In Iredell Schools Last Week
For the first time since last fall, Iredell-Statesville Schools reported fewer than 10 coronavirus cases in a school week.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Iredell-Statesville Schools reported seven coronavirus cases in a school week, marking the fewest number of cases confirmed in the school district in a week since last October.
"We are pleased to see a decreasing trend of positive COVID cases over the last month in the Iredell-Statesville Schools," Boen Nutting, spokesperson for the school district, said.
One school district staffer and six students tested positive for COVID-19 last week, ISS said.

None of the cases reported between March 15 and March 18 were the result of secondary spread within schools. One month prior, there were seven cases of secondary spread.
Despite the reduction in confirmed cases, coronavirus continues to impact the school district.
Community spread of COVID-19 led 190 students and 22 school district staff members to stay home either with symptoms or in quarantine out of caution between March 15 through March 18, ISS said.

Of the students reported as out, at least 63 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 76 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 51 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms, ISS said.
Among staff members, at least seven were in quarantine due to a school contact, nine were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and six were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms.
As of March 19, at least 33 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Iredell County in the span of a day, increasing the county's tally of known cases to 17,019. At least 13 county residents were hospitalized Friday, and 208 deaths were attributed to the virus, according to the Iredell County Health Department.
The schools and ISS facilities reporting positive COVID-19 cases from March 15 - March 18, 2021 include:

- East Iredell Elementary
- Union Grove Elementary
- Lake Norman High
- North Iredell High
