Forecasters warned of possible heavy rains and gusty winds in Iredell County and the greater Charlotte metro region Monday.

MOORESVILLE, NC — The work week's sunny start will likely turn stormy by Monday afternoon in the greater Charlotte metro region, setting up a week filled with rain, National Weather Service forecasters warned Monday.

"Scattered thunderstorms are expected across the area today, mainly this afternoon and this evening. The main threats from these storms will be from frequent cloud to ground lightning, locally heavy rainfall, and gusty winds," the NWS said Monday morning in a hazardous weather outlook bulletin.

The warning was issued for northeast Georgia, the upstate of South Carolina and the piedmont and western North Carolina, including Iredell County.
