MOORESVILLE, NC — The American Rescue Plan, or COVID-19 relief bill, will deliver nearly $9 billion to North Carolina, with more than $41 million to Lake Norman area towns for lost revenue, protect frontline workers and maintain public services.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package, which was proposed by President Joe Biden to speed up the United States' recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession.

The North Carolina League of Municipalities applauded the congressional approval of the American Rescue Plan, saying the move would offer direct assistance to many North Carolina communities who have suffered financially during the pandemic, including towns and cities that saw tax and utility payments plummet.

"Cities and towns play a key role as builders of infrastructure, and those investments ripple throughout local economies," NCLM said in a statement. "The direct assistance offered in the American Rescue Plan will go a long way in allowing North Carolina municipalities to continue in that role and make investments that promote recovery, job growth and uplift local businesses and residents."
