Iredell Coronavirus Update: Count Grows To 112 Confirmed Cases

The number of confirmed positive cases of the new coronavirus in Iredell County is now 112, up by four cases since Wednesday.

MOORESVILLE, NC — The number of confirmed positive cases of the new coronavirus in Iredell County is now 112, up by four cases since Wednesday, according to data released Thursday afternoon from the Iredell County Health Department.

At least six people in Iredell County have lost their lives due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the data.

The tally is cumulative and includes at least 64 cases that are assumed recovered, according to county health data.

At least four Iredell County residents were hospitalized for coronavirus-related illness, as of Thursday afternoon's data release.

The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in North Carolina rose by 561 overnight, bringing the cumulative total to 10,509, according to updated data released by state public health officials Thursday morning.

The Department of Health and Human Services reported 24 new coronavirus-related deaths in the state since Wednesday, bringing the total number of statewide deaths to 378 as of Thursday morning.

The number of outbreaks confirmed in congregate living facilities in the state, such as nursing homes and residential care facilities, continues to rise as deaths reported in these facilities claim at least half of the state's death toll.

As of Thursday morning, at least 1,649 people had tested positive for COVID-19 – the disease caused by the new coronavirus – at nursing homes, 336 people had tested positive at resident care facilities, 981 people had tested positive at correctional facilities and 69 positive cases attributed to other congregate living facilities in the state. COVID-19 outbreaks were reported in 49 nursing homes, 20 residential care facilities and at least 14 correctional facilities, DHHS said.

One such outbreak was reported recently at an Iredell County nursing home.

Iredell County health officials are grouping cases into three regions of the county: North, Central and South. Here's a breakdown of where cases are emerging as of 9 a.m. April 29, according to the Iredell County Department of Health:

North Region (zip codes 27020, 27028, 27055, 28625, 28634, 28636, 28660, 28689 ad 28678)

  • 12 cases

Central Region (zip codes 27013, 28166, 28677)

  • 35 cases

South Region (zip codes 28036, 28115, 28117, 28125)

  • 65 cases

According to county health data, those in the age group of 50 to 64 years of age represent 34 percent of all Iredell cases, followed by those 25 to 49 years of age with 32 percent of the cases and 18 to 24 years of age with 14 percent of cases. Those 65 and older make up 19 percent of COVID-19 cases in Iredell County.

At least one person infected with COVID-19 in Iredell County is under age of 17.
